Negative Campaign
Messages
Recently, several
local members have sent out emails endorsing candidates for
Local 94 offices. Please be advised that should individual
members consider endorsing individual slates or independent
candidates, special care and careful consideration should be
followed to ensure that the endorsement is of good taste and
informs voters of the candidates' qualifications and platforms.
Tactful and respectful endorsements are welcomed;
misrepresentations are not.

Quick Contract
Notes
Please print the attached updated copy of the NWA
AFA-CWA Contract Quick Reference that was distributed to
flight attendant mailboxes last December. This will be posted on
www.afa94.org as well. Until the process of
proofing the contract and designing an index is completed,
always carry these quick reference notes and at least
Section 5 Hours of Service and Section 6
Scheduling with you from the Green Book. If you are on Reserve,
also carry Section 7 Reserve.
In Memoriam -
Carla Yvonne
Rutledge
It is with deep
sadness that we announce the death of DTW-based Flight Attendant
Carla Rutledge. Carla was hired on 8/22/77. Details are still
unclear regarding the arrangements. Carla recently lost her
battle with cancer. We believe at this time services will
be in the ATL area on Thursday.
Urge U.S. Senate to support
legal FMLA coverage for air
crews
Please contact NWA AFA MEC Government Affairs
Chairs Albert Garcia or Diana Mitcham or visit www.afanet.org to send an
email to your Senator, asking them to cosponsor S. 2059.
This legislation would clarify the intent of the original Family
Medical Leave Act (FMLA,) in regards to hours that qualify
flight attendants and pilots. It would correct years of
unfairness in qualifying for FMLA coverage.
October Council Meeting
Cancelled
The monthly council
meeting on October 10th will be cancelled due to
scheduling conflicts with the AFA Board of Directors Meeting in
Phoenix and reduced staffing in
the DTW office. We
look forward to seeing you next month. DTW Council meetings are normally held on the
second Wednesday of every month at 1:00 pm in the Local 94
office under gate 8.
DTW
Flight Attendant Lounge Book Exchange
Due to
popular demand, starting on October 9th and on an ongoing basis
in our DTW FA Crew Lounge, we will be starting a book exchange
in conjunction with DTW Inflight Management. If you have books that
you have read and would like to share, please bring it to the FA
Crew Lounge bookshelf. Exchange your book for one you would like
to read - “Leave a book/take a book.” Look for
popular authors such as Dan Brown, Sandra Brown, John Grisham,
John Sanford, E. Lynn Harris, Margaret Johnson-Hodges, Maya
Angelou, as well as cookbooks and health and fitness
books.
New Contract
Implementation Tips – Items Starting October
1st
The monthly
maximum was eliminated on open board “upward
adjustments.”
The monthly maximum for trades (OWT, Mutual, Downline,
Base, Trade for Greater) remains at 110 hours. With this change, High
Time has been eliminated.
Please take great care when bidding for upward
adjustments, since there is no maximum. Always use limiters in
your CENTRY requests, since CENTRY may now award you as many
patterns as match your request, as long as weekly and rest
limitations are met.
AFA is working on an option to allow a simple Yes/No
election in CENTRY for over 100 hour upward requests.
Trades for
Greater and Equal processed together as a Category 12 in
seniority order. Previously trades for Greater were processed
before equal trades.
Reserve Increase Adjustment (RIA) allows a Reserve
to pick up a trip in SLAP, departing the next day, that operates
on days off (PDOs) and does not interfere with RDs in any
way. RIA is always
paid above the Reserve guarantee (unlike OWT, which offsets the
guarantee.) RIA is
isolated from Reserve Projection and from most legalities;
except FARs, layover rest, and
on-duty limitations.
GDOs must be cancelled by Scheduling in order to process
a RIA.
“AFA-CWA – Strengthening Within,
Growing Together: A Force for
Change”
The annual AFA-CWA 2007 Board of
Directors meeting will take place on October 16-October 18 in
PHX. If you are in the area or on a layover, please
consider attending. Please see attached agenda items
for this important yearly event and more information can be
found at www.afanet.org.
Fly safe and fly the
contract!
