New Jumpseat (XFA) language and Reciprocal Jumpseats

Following new contractual language (p. 25.3,) Flight Attendants who have listed for an XFA seat who do not arrive at the gate thirty minutes (0:30) prior to departure of a flight that operates wholly within (50) United States, or one hour and thirty minutes (1:30) prior to the departure of a flight that does not operate wholly within the fifty (50) United States shall lose their reserved listing.  A bulletin will be sent to agents system wide about this.  Also of note to commuters, the union and the company are in ongoing discussions regarding Jumpseat Reciprocity (Letter 31) with other carriers.  Stay tuned as more information comes available on this.

Elimination of Monthly Maximum for “Upward Adjustments”

This voluntary option to “remove the cap” was implemented October 1, 2007, but many flight attendants are still not aware of some pertinent information.  Please note: 1. TRADES are NOT allowed once adjusted over 110 hours.  This includes Mutual, Downline, Base, Trade for Greater, One Way Trade.  2. When the 100 hour monthly maximum legality is waived, this may lead to rescheduling before others who still retain the 100 hour maximum.  3. Make sure you limit your Upward Adjustment requests because there is no maximum.

AFA-CWA Sets up Disaster Relief for California Members

As hundreds of thousands of Southern California residents flee from uncontrolled wild fires, AFA-CWA is preparing for the needs of our members who have been or will be affected by this latest weather-related disaster. As with the Gulf-Coast hurricane disaster two years ago, AFA-CWA is actively soliciting donations for the AFA Disaster Relief Fund.  This will be distributed to members impacted by the California fires.

Please consider making a donation to help your fellow flight attendants whose lives are being critically disrupted at the moment.  Until the AFA website mechanism for credit card donations is up and running, checks may be made out to AFA Disaster Relief Fund and sent directly to the International office at AFA Disaster Relief Fund, 501 Third Street, NW Washington DC 20001. If you have been evacuated from your home, please contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-redcross or go to http://disastersafe.redcross.org to list your "safe and well" status.

As always, if you need to, please contact your EAP Representative by going to www.nwaafa.org for a full list of your local EAP representatives.

Did you know?

In order to be awarded patterns in CENTRY and SLIC, you must have a valid visa and passport for the entire month.  In other words, if your French visa will expire November 15th, SLIC will not award a Paris layover during the October 17th SLIC run for November.  More information can be found in the analysis cover letter.

The latest estimate for the printing of the contract is December 2007.  In the meantime, please carry at least Sections 5, 6 (and 7 if on Reserve) from the Green Book.  If you need a copy, stop by Local 94.  An electronic copy is available on www.nwaafa.org, www.afa94.org,  and on ATLAS under “Hot Links.”

Committee Volunteers Needed

Please consider volunteering for our Local AFA Committees.  These committees are a valuable resource for our members and strengthen our union and our efforts on a Local and National level.  The Local 94 Government Affairs, Mobilization, Scheduling, and Occupational Benefits (OJI/Workers Comp) Committees need member participation to be successful.  Please email lec94@nwaafa.org for more information.
