 Martin Luther King, Jr (1929-1968)

Local Executive Council 94 honors the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr.  His dream of and efforts toward social and economic justice in America have changed this country forever.  At the age of thirty-five in 1964, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his award, he announced that he would turn over the prize money to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.  Dr. King's life stands as an inspiring beacon that shows what hard work and solidarity can accomplish.

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
- Martin Luther King Jr., Strength to Love, 1963

Warm Thanks to Outgoing DTW SLIC Team

The officers of LEC94 wish to convey our sincere gratitude to the Detroit SLIC team.  Frank Slitti, Quintin Quackenbush, and Lynn Walburn have resigned their SLIC counselor positions, effective January 22, 2008.

Frank, Quintin and Lynn have worked countless hours assisting flight attendants through the SLIC bid process.  SLIC requires extensive knowledge in work rules and the parameters of the flight attendant Agreement.  The SLIC team's "fluency" in the syntax that makes up our flying requests has helped to guide us through the often frustrating process, and has saved many from "flunking" bidding!   Detroit has been in the most capable and experienced hands during the service of Frank, Quintin, and Lynn.  We are confident we speak for all members when we say a heartfelt thank you to our SLIC team for their combined 24 years of dedication to Detroit flight attendants.  Our best to you in all future endeavors . . .

CWA Legislative Conference - April 6-9th, 2008

The CWA National Legislative-Political Conference is scheduled for April 6-9, 2008.  Please contact Diana Mitcham dmitcham@nwaafa.org to find out how to participate in this massive political action day in Washington D.C.  Lobbying with your fellow workers in AFA-CWA is an experience to remember and shows the U.S. Congress and Senate what really matters to us.

AFA Board of Directors Meeting - July 8-10th, 2008

All members are invited to attend and witness the union's democratic process at this year's AFA Board of Directors Meeting in Milwaukee. Local Presidents (from all AFA carriers) vote on resolutions, constitutional changes, budgets, etc.  Ideas are gathered from the membership by each Local and are submitted as resolutions and/or agenda items.  Please submit to Local 94 any ideas for agenda items or resolutions, that you would like to see brought before the AFA Board of Directors

Early Out Participants - DCO correction

Please note - the Early Out Dues Check Off Notice of Revocation does not need to be sent via registered mail to AFA.  However, there is a contractual requirement for the DCO form be sent to NWA via registered mail (FA Agreement Section 24.)  We apologize for the incovenience this error on the form has caused our Early Out participants.

Next Local Council Meeting - April 16, 2008 - 1300

Please save the date for the next Local 94 Council meeting. The meeting will take place at the Local 94 office, under gate 8 on the apron level.

Scheduling Committee Reminders

An automated Crew Schedule Report is now available online.   Please visit www.nwaafa.org and go to the COMMITTEE section, then select Scheduling.  Issues may include pattern construction, scheduler issues, and negative trends you notice impacting patterns and scheduling operations.  Provide as much factual documentation as possible when submitting your concerns.  If you will be pursuing a grievance, contact your Local Executive Council.

If you feel you have been given an assignment or rescheduled outside the restrictions of the contract, remember to ask for a "Review of Crew Orders," as per Section 6.F.

The programming for One Way Trades (OWT) is finally complete and will be operational effective for SLAP on January 24, 2008.  One Way Trades within bases will be processed as "open trades" when this is complete. This means CENTRY will match "giver" and "taker" requests in seniority order and then process the trade.  Requests entered after 1000 on January 24th will be awarded under the new "open trades" process during the appropriate SLAP and PLAP. OWT requests between bases will remain unchanged. Please note: Centry and Voice will not accept OWT requests from 2200 CST on January 23rd to approximately 1100 CST on January 24th, while programming is completed.

Reserve Increase Adjustments (RIA) enable Reserves to make extra money on their days off and are always paid above the Reserve guarantee (80:00.)  However, these trips must operate (including rest after)  within days off and can only be picked up in the SLAP before days off.   CAUTION: if entering generic RIA requests, remember to limit your CENTRY request as much as possible to maximize a positive outcome - e.g. "P1-2DP NOP3-8DP"
