Dear Apprentice Member:
As your Local Executive Council,
we welcome you to Northwest Airlines and to the
Association of Flight Attendants-CWA! In Detroit, 7
elected local union officers comprise your Local Executive
Council (LEC.) We are flight attendants, just like
you, and we volunteer for our union when not
flying. We are available to assist you as you
begin your career as a flight attendant and as an AFA-CWA
member.
During your six months of probation, you
are entitled to enjoy most of the benefits and
protections that your contract has to
offer. We cannot represent you in disciplinary
matters or file grievances for you during your probation, but we
can answer contractual questions and are available to
assist you at the local union office in Detroit. We invite
you to utilize the Reserve Tip booklet and
the Contract Reference Notes that we created, which
summarize important parts of Sections 5, 6, & 7 of
our contract (also known as the "CBA" or Collective
Bargaining Agreement.) These are available at the union
bulletin board in the Flight Attendant Lounge and at the Local
94 office.
We invite all Apprentice
Members to the next Contract Training sessions on
March 12, 2008. This is a chance to become
better acquainted with your contract. These sessions will
take place next to the AFA Local 94 office (near gate A8, take
the elevator to the apron level and follow the signs to the
AFA-CWA office.) Two sessions will be offerred: 10-12:30
and 2-5pm. Please stop in any time during the sessions and
bring your contract (green book) and questions. We
look forward to meeting you at the office and on the line.
Welcome On Board!
