You
will remember that the FMLA Flight Crew Technical Corrections
Act (HR2744) passed unanimously in the US House of
Representatives in May.
The bill is now in the Senate.
The
legislation includes a technical correction to the 1993 FMLA
that will recognize the unusual schedules of airline flight crew
and will finally restore the original intent of the law: to
include flight attendants and pilots, along with other American
workers, in family and medical leave protections.
Your
MEC Government Affairs Committee has learned that the FMLA
Corrections Act is now in jeopardy as it hits the halls of the
US Senate. After
all the momentum and success we have built with the bill in the
House, this recent political maneuvering is unacceptable. We need your help!
Please call your Senator’s office TODAY and tell
them you want them to co-sponsor The FMLA Flight Crew Technical
Corrections Act, S2059.
Even if you've already phoned, we ask that you call again.
We are especially interested in getting the two Michigan
Democratic Senators, Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, signed on
as co-sponsors.
The Michigan senators have yet to
give their support to this bill.
Use the following simple script for a 10 second phone
call to your senator’s office:
"I am a resident of
<State> and a voter. I want Senator <Name> to co-
sponsor S. 2059, Flight Crew FMLA Technical
Correction"
You
can go to www.senate.gov for a contact list
of all US Senators. Complete information
about the FMLA bills is at http://www.nwaafa.org/committees/govaffairs.
Equal FMLA rights are important to flight attendants and
to our families. To
that end, we encourage you to share this information with your
churches, PTA, family, clubs, and anyone willing to make the
call to the US Senate offices.
Local 94 President and MEC Government Affairs Vice-Chair
Diana Mitcham will host a “Membership Call to
Action” this week from the Detroit AFA Offices. Please stop in to your
Union office on Tuesday from 1300-1500; Wednesday from
1500-1700; and Thursday from 1100-1400. We will be making calls
to members to provide them with Senate office numbers and
reminding them to make the call! Any time you can give is appreciated. Remember, FMLA affects
all of us and our families! CALL YOUR SENATOR
TODAY!
