AFA-CWA COMMITTEES: LET’S GIVE ‘EM A
HAND!
We would like to extend a special thanks
to all of our Local 94 Committee Members and activists. These dedicated Flight
Attendant volunteers work tirelessly on your behalf and through
a variety of venues to improve your life on the job. AFA-CWA Flight Attendant
Committees consist entirely of your peers volunteering in an
area of interest, need, and/or education to
address/change/improve/introduce the real-life issues that
affect you day-to-day. Their efforts are, in effect, where the
rubber meets the road.
Haven’t you ever wondered,
“Why doesn’t someone DO something about [insert your
concern here]?
Well, Local Committees DO! Coordinating with your Local 94 Council, as
well as their larger MEC committees and AFA-CWA International,
these individuals work on Capitol Hill and in local government
to to change the laws that affect your workplace. For example, NWA Flight
Attendant Government Affairs activists actually
changed Minnesota law to provide unemployment benefits
for FAs taking SLIP leaves!
AFA-CWA Committees research, gather and
provide input to influence the hotels you stay in (or don't stay
in), as well as every aspect of your health, safety and security
along the way. (Hotel Committee, Air Safety, Health and Security
Committee) They
provide a listening ear with a proactive approach during
personal struggles, including grief, stress and peer conflict
situations. They can
offer referrals to the resources and tools you need to move
forward. (EAP)
AFA-CWA committees provide a peer-to-peer on-the-line
forum for feedback and education, carrying collective concerns
and creative solutions to management, as
necessary. Your co-workers serve on committees
for Scheduling and Reserve, PBS, OJI, Language of
Destination and Purser, to name just a
few.
We would like to take this time to thank
all of our Local 94 Committee Members, volunteers and activists.
Your dedication and tireless efforts do not go unnoticed. Simply
put, your involvement makes us all more effective. In a
member-mobilized Union,
you are the key ingredient to our Local’s success.
It isn’t easy making time to process co-worker concerns
and coordinate ideas for solutions. Thank you for joining our efforts to provide
Detroit-based Flight Attendants with the best possible Union
representation.
Please extend a hand to thank these individuals the next time you pass them in the hall or see their
name on your crew list.
If you would like more information about volunteering,
please e-mail lec94@nwaafa.org, call
734-532-8404 or just drop by the Local 94 Office, which is
located under Gate 8 on the apron level of the A
concourse.
With our sincerest gratitude,
Your AFA-CWA Local 94 Officers
President Diana Mitcham,
Vice-President John O'Donnell,
Secretary Anthony Hytche,
Council Representatives Kevin Boston,
Belea Bower and Jeff Martoia
