Greetings,

2007 MEC Elections Report – Day One

As of the adjournment of the meeting this evening, our MEC (comprised of the Local Council Presidents from each of Northwest’s nine bases) has completed two-thirds of the process for electing new MEC Officers for the term beginning July 1st, 2007. Interviews have been completed for all candidates who submitted a letter of interest and wanted to be interviewed.

Twenty-six year HNL flight attendant Kevin Griffin was elected as MEC President, and eleven-year SFO flight attendant Albert Garcia was elected as MEC Vice-President. Nine-year DTW flight attendant Janette Rook was elected as Secretary-Treasurer by the majority of the MEC, but was immediately RECALLED from her position by DTW Local Council President, Sue Ludwig as well as SEA Council President Jay Hong, MSP Local Council President, Kathy Dunham and SFO Local Council President, Kate Day.

The election process can include repeated votes and recalls (utilizing a Local Council President's roll-call ability, which is based on the number of members at his/her base) for individual positions, per the AFA Constitution.  Elections will continue tomorrow, June 21, until a Secretary-Treasurer is finally established by the MEC.  MEC Committee Chairs and Vice-Chairs will most likely be determined tomorrow, as well.  Your DTW Council is committed to providing you with the most up-to-date information available during this important time.
