-- Attention DTW Local 94 Members --

At the April 11, 2007, DTW Local 94 Membership Meeting, several flight attendants expressed concerns regarding the “excessive” use of the "Roll Call" vote in official MEC meetings, by the LEC President.  As explained, a roll call vote is when an LEC President, who is a member of the Master Executive Council, disagrees with a decision made by the MEC and chooses to overturn that decision using the number of eligible members in their council.

There was a great deal of healthy debate on this issue.  The consensus of the membership in attendance was that there may be times when a roll call may be warranted, but the DTW members deserve and expect an accurate and responsible explanation for any use of such roll call.  As such, a motion was made at the meeting by DTW flight attendant Daniel Grey and passed by those in attendance, requiring our LEC 94 President to provide an accounting of her/his reasons for using the Roll Call vote on any matter before the MEC. The adopted resolution is now Council 94 policy.

“After an MEC meeting or MEC Conference Call the Local 94 President [or representative of the Council] shall disseminate information obtained

[at the meeting] to the Local [Local 94 membership] via e-mail and hotline, further when a roll-call vote is used, that Local 94 [Local 94 membership] receive an explanation within 48 hours, via e-mail and the Local Council website, as to why it was used and why the votes were cast as they were.”

The resolution was adopted unanimously, i.e. without dissent.

Yesterday, we learned that yet another Roll Call action was initiated by our Local 94 President -- this time against the election of DTW Flight Attendant and Council Representative, Janette Rook, who received majority support for the position of MEC Secretary-Treasurer.  This action has prompted many questions and comments to the LEC 94 office, asking whether we had supported this action. While we did not have any input into this decision, we seek to support the majority opinion at our base and offer the following opportunity for you to be heard.

In anticipation of the written decision (by LEC 94 President Sue Ludwig) required by the resolution passed above, your other LEC 94 officers would like to hear from ALL of our DTW constituents on your views regarding the candidacy of the following:

Candidate #1 - Bill Ianuzi

Candidate #2 - Neal McMahon

Candidate #3 - Janette Rook

Please let your voice be heard by responding to LEC94@nwaafa.org -- and thank you for participating in this democratic polling.
