Dear Friend, Save the date for the New York Jobs with Justice Awards Night 2009! Each year we recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant gains toward social and economic justice throughout New York at our annual Awards Night. This year on November 12th, we'll come together to honor Patricia Smith, the New York State Commissioner of Labor. Smith's efforts on behalf of New York's working families reminds us that government can effectively serve the public good. In her more than 30 years as a labor advocate, Smith has earned a reputation for being tough and innovative in her approach to winning fair treatment for workers. Under her direction, the New York State Department of Labor has a renewed focus on protecting vulnerable, low-wage and immigrant workers and ensuring that employers compete on a level playing field.
