Join OCSEA members across the state for a day dedicated to stopping further cuts to state services that are provided by state employee union members. Drastic cuts are being considered by Ohio’s legislature to fill a $3.2 billion budget hole. Please call or write your legislator on Tuesday, June 23, -- or sooner if that day doesn't work for you -- for OCSEA's Day of Action.

STEP 1: Enter your zip code + 4 or your address to look up your state legislators and click on the "state tab"

STEP 2: Call or write now!

Sample Phone Script

OCSEA member: “Hi, my name is (your first and last name) and I work (state what it is you do) in the (your agency or department name). I wanted to talk to the Representative/Senator about some concerns I have regarding the budget in that agency.”

Aide: (Legislator’s name) is not available at the moment. Can I take a message?

OCSEA member: "This is not the Ohio I thought it was. My Ohio would not CLOSE 6 prisons, 3 mental health hospitals, 10 developmental centers, and 35 parks. As a state employee union member, I am urging you to identify responsible new revenue sources. Please do not allow the state's $3.2 billion budget hole to cripple state agencies, displace more workers, or further penalize working families.”
(See GENERAL TALKING POINTS SHEET (PDF)... for more general statements)

(OPTIONAL - BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)
OCSEA member continues:
"For example, look at my agency..."

(Example from Dept. of Mental Health; Tell them what you know personally or see AGENCY TALKING POINTS SHEET (PDF)... )
“Ohio’s mental health system has suffered enough from cuts to their safety net through the years. Twelve state mental health hospitals in the 1990s have dwindled down to just seven today, with two last-resort facilities – Twin Valley in Dayton and Cambridge Behavioral Health – having closed in the last year. By closing mental health facilities, the state is depriving families of life-giving mental health services in their communities. We can’t afford anymore cuts.”

Aide: “I will relay your message.”

OCSEA Member: “Thank you and please make sure the message is relayed to the conference committee members as well.”
