Health Care Reform
On Wednesday June 24, seven buses left Ohio en route to Washington, D.C. to rally for a better health care system: one that is fair for all Americans.
Did you know one American goes bankrupt every 30 seconds due to health care costs? It's a statistic I use over and over to make the point that we need reform now.
Bankruptcy is a personal tragedy, of course. But it's also an economic catastrophe. How do we expect to get out of our economic crisis is health care costs are keeping hardworking Americans down like that?
Even if you could not make the trip to the nation's capital, you can help. Please sign the petition saying you support President Barack Obama's reform of health care giving Americans a choice in private versus public health care.

Subject: Health Care Reform NOW!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Soaring health insurance premiums and out-of-pocket expenses are pushing families into bankruptcy or forcing them to go without the care they need. Over 46 million Americans have no medical coverage at all. Business owners fear they'll be forced to choose between keeping their doors open or covering their workers. And ballooning costs of Medicare and Medicaid threaten to lead to fiscal catastrophe down the road. Simply put, the status quo is broken.
If we continue on our current course, within a decade we'll spend one dollar out of every five we earn on health care -- and we'll keep getting less for our money.
Fixing what's wrong with our health care system is no longer a luxury we hope to achieve -- it's a necessity we cannot postpone any longer.
President Obama has called for health care reform in 2009 that upholds three core principles. It must:
* Reduce costs -- Rising health care costs are crushing the budgets of governments, businesses, individuals, and families, and they must be brought under control;
* Guarantee choice -- Every American must have the freedom to choose their plan and doctor: including the choice of a public insurance option;
* Ensure quality care for all -- All Americans must have quality and affordable health care.
I support President Obama's three principles for real health care reform, and I call on all of Congress, both Republican and Democrat alike, to enact a plan that helps all Americans have quality, affordable health care.

On February 24th, President Obama addressed both houses of Congress, saying specifically health care reform "cannot wait another year." On February 25th the Senate Finance Committee kicked off the formal legislative process by holding a hearing on health care. And then on February 26th, President Obama released his budget proposal, calling for $634 billion to be set aside for health care reform. President Obama then held a "health care summit" at the White House, where he reiterated his support for health care reform this year.
We also know with busy schedules it is difficult to find time to get on a bus and spend two days rallying. But there still a way you can help all Americans have a choice in their health care.
Please sign this petition saying you support President Barack Obama's reform of health care giving Americans a choice in private versus public health care.
The health insurance industry is one of the least regulated businesses in America today. What other service do you pay for when you don't need it, and then get denied the service when you do? Where do you go when your insurance company denies care due to a pre-existing condition? That's why we're getting Congress on board for quality, affordable health care for all. The time is now and we need everyone to get involved.
