If you need to learn more, read on!
Working families in Oregon are fighting this legislative session to restore their freedom to organize into unions and bargain for better pay and benefits. They are close to victory -- but they need you to take action today!
When workers try to join or form a union to bargain for better wages, benefits and working conditions, they are up against a billion-dollar anti-union consulting industry. Employers routinely harass, intimidate and fire workers for trying to form a union. This is hurting Oregon's working families.
The Oregon AFL-CIO's "Restoring the Freedom to Organize" Package of bills has passed the State House of Representatives. But right now the State Senate is being inundated with anti-worker messages who want to kill these reforms.
Please urge your State Senator today to pass these bills. It's easy learn here about the issue, or, if you already know, just follow quick instructions to send a letter today.

Subject: Please Support HB 2891 and HB 2892
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Please promote democracy in the workplace by supporting HB 2891 and HB 2892 -- the Oregon AFL-CIO's "Restoring the Freedom to Organize" bills.
When employers interfere in workers' decision about having a union, the whole state loses: living standards decline and income inequality grows. It's important to restore this freedom to choose a union, and save our middle class.
But more and more Oregon workers face employer harassment and intimidation when they try to join a union. This is un-American.
That's why I'm asking you to support the Oregon AFL-CIO's "Restoring the Freedom to Organize" bills.
HB 2891, the Majority Sign-Up bill, will allow public sector workers to choose whether to use the already-legal Majority Sign-Up process to form a union. This process is legal, but the choice of whether to use it is in the hands of the employer. Workers should be able to choose this themselves.
HB 2892, the State Financial Accountability Act, ensures that state contractors do not divert taxpayer money away from health care, transportation and other programs to hire expensive consultants to influence workers on union campaigns. These companies can still have their say, but they must use their own funds -- not precious taxpayer dollars.
Thank you for your consideration. Please restore the freedom to organize by voting YES on HB 2891 and HB 2892.
Sincerely,
|
