From EFCA To ENDA: Our Shared Agenda

Help Us Knock Out Job Discrimination With A One-Two Punch

With Democratic majorities in the House and Senate, and a Democrat in the White House, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community has a real opportunity to make job discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity illegal in all 50 states and bring recognition and better benefits to our families in the workplace.

Two pieces of legislation will help make this happen: The Employment Non-Discrimination Act and The Employee Free Choice Act.

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act will outlaw job discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

The Employee Free Choice Act will make it easier for workers who wish to join a union to do so, and also speed up the process for obtaining a first contract.  These union contracts often provide LGBT families benefits well beyond what is required by law, recognizing LGBT families through health care benefits, FMLA leave inclusion, sick and bereavement clauses, among many.

Please take a moment and contact, your Senator, Congressmember, and the President, and let them know that you want them to speedily pass both The Employee Free Choice Act and The Employment Non-Discrimination Act.  Both bills will bring relief and protection for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community in the workplace.

Subject: Please Co-Sponsor The Employee Free Choice Act And The Employment Non-Discrimination Act

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

In most States, it is legal to fire someone because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. In addition, employers are not required to provide health care and other benefits to LGBT families, leaving our families particularly vulnerable during these difficult economic times.

That is why it is essential that Congress pass, and the President sign, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). Both bills would bring relief to LGBT people and our families in the workplace.

I implore you to Co-Sponsor both bills.

Sincerely,
