Subject: There's a Better Way, Stop the Waste, Stop the Closure of Correctional Facilities

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As you are aware, the Executive Budget proposes to close the Camp Gabriels, Camp Georgetown, Camp Mt. Mcgregor & Camp Pharsalia correctional facilities operated by the Department of Correctional Services (DOCS).

These facilities provide a valuable resource to the state as "step down" facilities that allow inmates to effectively transition into their communities as they serve their sentence.

If funds for are not restored in the adopted budget for these facilities, these closures will not only affect the ability of inmates to transition into our communities, it will have a serious negative impact on workers, their families and their communities. Many local economies rely on the employment and business the facilities generate.

I ask you to help keep these facilities open and make sure that the budget restorations included in the Senate's budget resolution remain in the final state budget.

Sincerely,

Background Information

Hundreds of workers, their families, and the communities in which they live and work will be negatively impacted by the governor’s proposed closures in the Department of Correctional Services.  If that weren’t bad enough, the closures may in fact make current problems in the correctional system worse, and create new challenges such as capacity shortages down the road.
