Act Now Against False Medicare Ads

The Alliance for Retired Americans has expressed outrage that the Bush Administration is using taxpayer money to promote the new Medicare prescription drug law in a deceptive way. The $12.6 million advertising campaign -- entitled "Same Medicare. More Benefits" -- is slated to spend $9.5 million on TV ads and $3.1 million for newspaper, radio and internet ads. The Alliance has repeatedly denounced the new plan as "hopelessly flawed" and opposes the use of taxpayer monies to finance what it calls a "blatantly political Medicare ad campaign."

It is vitally important that you act today to let the White House and your elected representatives know how you feel about this issue.

Subject: Reimburse Taxpayers for Medicare Misinformation Campaign!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to express my outrage that taxpayer monies are being used to finance a blatantly political Medicare ad campaign. I urge you and your administration to abandon this ad campaign and reimburse the millions spent further confusing seniors with misinformation.

These ads purport that this is the "Same Medicare. More Benefits," when in fact the complex law makes the most radical changes to Medicare in its 38-year history. As a senior and Medicare beneficiary I am opposed to the Medicare legislation and outraged at your administration's brazen attempts to use public funds to "rebut criticism of the new Medicare law."

Use our tax dollars to shrink the doughnut hole!!

Sincerely,
