Tell Sen. Specter to Reconsider his Medicare Vote

In a press release available on his website, Sen. Specter says he voted not to end debate (voted against cloture) because there was, “no opportunity to offer any amendments.”  However, Senators are only afforded the opportunity to offer amendments on legislation originating in the House after cloture is achieved.  At the same time, he voices concern for numerous players in the medical industry - including doctors, hospitals and providers - but not for the thousands of low-income Medicare beneficiaries in Pennsylvania H.R. 6331 would help.

Subject: Please Reconsider the Needs of Seniors Who Rely on Medicare

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As your constituent, I am writing to voice my outrage and disappointment with your vote last Thursday on the motion to proceed on the "Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008" (H.R. 6331), Senate Roll Call No. 160.

In a press release available on your website, you say you voted against cloture because there was, "no opportunity to offer any amendments." However, Senators are only afforded the opportunity to offer amendments on legislation originating in the House after cloture is achieved. At the same time, you voice concern for numerous players in the medical industry - including doctors, hospitals and providers - but not for the thousands of low-income Medicare beneficiaries in Pennsylvania H.R. 6331 would help.

I will continue to urge my elected officials to support real Medicare improvements. I urge you, Senator Specter, to next time reconsider and put the needs of your constituents who rely on Medicare first.

Sincerely,
