Tell Congress Seniors Must be Part of the Health Care Debate
Health care reform this summer is a national priority. As Congress debates health care proposals, this is the critical moment for retirees to come together and make our voice heard. We need to tell Congress that the health care bill must include a public plan option that provides affordable health care for all Americans.

Subject: Seniors Must be Part of the Health Care Debate
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing as a senior constituent of yours, and a member of the Alliance for Retired Americans. The Alliance is a national organization of more than 3 million retirees with members in every state and congressional district.
As Congress considers health care reform I urge you to:
- Create a public plan option that will keep the costs of private insurance plans down.
- Stop attempts to tax health care benefits, which could lead to the loss of coverage, especially for retirees.
- Eliminate the ability of insurance companies to "age rate" their policy premiums;
- End the Medicare Advantage overpayments and use the savings to improve Medicare and enact health care reform.
- Eliminate the Medicare Part D doughnut hole.
- Allow early retirees who have trouble getting health insurance to buy into Medicare at affordable premiums.
- Include the CLASS Act (S. 697 and H.R. 1721) for long term services and supports.
America needs health care reform this year! I look forward to keeping you informed on health care and other issues that are important for retirement security.
Sincerely,
|
