Greetings,
This week members of the TA/GA Steering Committee will
join activists from Canada and the United States in Toronto,
Ontario at the annual conference of the Coalition of Graduate
Employee Unions (CGEU). We'll be learning from our national and
international colleagues about new issues facing graduate
employees and new ideas for organizing a stronger union--but
more than that, we'll also arrive as recognized leaders on the
international scene. Two of our experienced members are leading
workshops or participating on panels attended by activists from
all across North America. And do you know what happens when we
tell them about our many contract victories at Rutgers? Work and
family leave, 8% yearly raises, student fee waivers... They can
hardly believe it. Jaws drop. Seriously!
We're doing
something special here. But in the end it always comes down to
one thing: membership. And I'm writing to you because you're
not a member... yet!
This is a crucial time to
show your support for the union: with the University proposing
to drop our pay increases for this year, union leaders are
engaged in aggressive negotiations to save our raises--and
nothing is decided until negotiations are concluded and
union members (yes, members only!) vote on any changes to
the contract. Send a message to university administrators
right now: you support our union's efforts, and you need
every paragraph of our contract enforced. Make a difference
the easy way: sign a membership form TODAY.
You can
download a membership form at http://www.rutgersaaup.org/misc/MEMBERSHIP_APPLICATION_1204.pdf
. Or just let me know, and I'll be happy to stop by during your
office hours this week to sign you up!
Still not sure?
Come talk about it at the weekly...
Summer Social
Hour: Live music at the 360 Bar & Grill at 120 Albany
Street in New Brunswick. Come by any time after 9pm this Friday,
and as always expect a free drink for supporting the
cause by wearing a union shirt. A limited number of shirts will
be available at the bar!
Please address all questions to
me at taga@gsa.rutgers.edu.
