Greetings,

Part-Time Lecturers should receive their salary increases on time. The salary increases are set to go into effect on September 1, 2009, and should go forward in accordance with the Collective Agreement. The administration has indicated that departments should go ahead with plans to hire Part-Time Lecturers.

Across-the-Board Increases

Effective September 1 for the Fall Semester 2009, PTLs will receive a 3.0% increase to their base salary or the applicable minimum base salary rate, whichever is higher.

Increases to the Minimum:

Effective on September 1, 2009, the minimum base salary rate will be $1410 per credit, except for courses involving "N" credits in Academic Foundations in Newark and in the PALS program. The hourly rate for instruction in the PALS program will be $42.00 per hours for the Intensive and Evening programs and $47.00 for the Corporate Program. For PTLs teaching in Academic Foundations courses in Newark, the minimum will be $1310 per class period.

In addition, another 3% increase is scheduled for implementation in the Spring 2010 semester.

With the conclusion of discussions related to the full-time faculty contract, full-time faculty will be voting on a tentative settlement that contains a delay in their salary increases, except that Teaching Assistants and Graduate Assistants will not have a delay.

We thank all the members for the support you gave during this difficult time. We also would like to thank the full-time faculty chapter of the Rutgers AAUP-AFT for their support in ensuring that PTLs received the salary increases due to us under our contract. Solidarity was essential in this effort.

It is clear, without a union, PTL salary increases would not have been protected.

I
n Solidarity,

Mike Slott
President, Rutgers PTLFC AAUP-AFT
