Greetings,
We're off to an exciting year! I know you're working as hard
as we are--taking classes, teaching class, keeping long hours in
the lab. Wouldn't it be nice to have a chance, once in a while,
to relax and recenter? Clear your mind a little? (But of
course... if you're relaxed enough already and you just want to
win $100, see below, after the yoga
info!)
We think so. And that's why we're offering our
first monthly FREE beginner's yoga class. If you've
always wanted to try a good yoga workout, here's your
chance!
When: Tuesday, September 22,
7:30–8:45pm. Where: Graduate Student Lounge,
College Ave.
About the class Our
talented instructor, Mona Kleinberg, began practicing yoga in
2003 to maintain strength and flexibility after a back injury
forced her to give up rock climbing. She became a certified yoga
instructor in 2008: her teaching styles include Integral Yoga,
which she studied at the Satchidananda Ashram, Vinyasa, and
Ashtanga Yoga. After experimenting with various styles of hatha
yoga, she found a home in the Ashtanga tradition, which she
studied with Nancy Gilgoff, and she maintains a vigorous home
practice.
Our class will feature a basic introduction to
hatha yoga, which focuses on the physical (as opposed to
meditative, spiritual, or philosophical) aspects of the
practice. We will learn asanas from the Ashtanga Primary Series,
offering one of the most physically challenging forms of hatha
yoga. Each class will include periods of relaxation and rest to
complete a well-balanced workout. Students should bring a small
towel, wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing, and should
refrain from eating for about two hours prior to the
class.
Reserve your mat The union has a
limited number of yoga mats available for your use, on a
first-come basis. If you have your own mat, please bring it with
you. Otherwise, RSVP to taga@gsa.rutgers.edu to
reserve your mat today!
