Greetings,
35 days until the deadline for
2010 PTL Professional Development Funds
You've got plenty of time to get your
application ready by November 30!
Apply now for reimbursement of professional
development funds (PDF) that you may have already spent
this fall or that you plan to spend in the spring semester.
Remember you must have your department chair or program director
review and endorse your proposal before you submit it to Marisa
Koz.
Download the Guidelines.
We hardly need to
repeat but we will anyway: Professional development enhances the
quality of your teaching as well as the professional
reputation of part-time lecturers in general. Please apply!
Submit the completed application with an endorsement from
your department chair or program director by email
to Marisa Koz at koz@oldqueens.rutgers.edu no
later than November 30, 2009.
The types of professional
development activities for which you may be reimbursed fall
under a wide range of categories:
-
attending conferences
-
presenting papers at conferences
-
purchase of materials that enhance teaching
(e.g., films, software, books; but not
laptops)
- research expenses
- professional training
- preparation of materials/programs that enhance student
learning (e.g, CD-ROM and handbook; hosting music groups on
campus)
Professional development to meet your pedagogic
needs as a professor at Rutgers University is supported
by a special fund set up through negotiations between the
Rutgers Part-Time Lecturer Faculty Chapter-AAUP-AFT and
Rutgers administration. The RU Center for Teaching
Advancement and Assessment Research will send notification of
the awards granted by the end of January 2010.
Rutgers PTLFC-AAUP-AFT negotiated $10,000 a year for PTL
professional development under the current contract in
effect for 2007-2011. We do not think that this is a sufficient
amount given the size of the part-time lecturer bargaining unit,
but it is double the amount available in the previous
4-year contract. We want to be well-positioned
to propose a higher amount in the next round of
negotiations, which will begin in 2011. Your application,
even if not funded in any given round of awards, helps to
build our argument that more funds should be made available.
If you have any questions on your application or the process,
please contact Karen Thompson at kgt@rci.rutgers.edu or
call 732-964-1000, ext. 21.
