Unite for Students!

TELL STUDENTS TO OPPOSE CUTS TO FINANCIAL AID!

Take Action- Sign this petition to ask youth groups to unify against the largest cuts to student loans in the history of the programs!

The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote as early as January 31 st on a proposal to cut $12.7 billion in student loan funding, the largest cut to student aid in history! The cuts would help finance tax cuts for the richest among us while pricing millions out of college.  The vote is too close to call.

We can stop this attack on affordable education.  But we need unity to win support from critical Representatives who are still on the fence.  That's why we're calling on the leaders of both the College Republicans and College Democrats to stand behind students and their families.

Please sign our emergency petition to Paul Gourley, Chairman of the College Republicans, and Grant Woodward, President of the College Democrats asking that they unite in opposition to the proposed cuts!

Then please forward this e-mail to friends and family and ask them to sign.  Student leaders will deliver your signatures to the College Republicans and College Democrats.

A college education is the best ticket to good jobs and good citizenship.  But in recent years, the cost of a college education has soared for students and their families.  Now more than ever, elected leaders should help ease not worsen the financial hardship of going to college.

Only a handful of votes could determine the outcome of these votes.  Unified opposition from the student arm of both parties could swing the deciding votes our way!

Subject: Students Oppose Budget Reconciliation

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As early as January 31st, the House of Representatives will be considering a piece of legislation called Budget Reconciliation (S.1932). This bill contains the largest cut to student loans in the history of the federal programs.

Budget Reconciliation will cut of $12.7 billion from federal student loan programs! These cuts will dramatically increase the amount students have to pay for higher education, costing the average student thousands of dollars more in loan repayment.

We have a chance to stop Congress from cutting billions of dollars in funding for student loans and financial aid. But the vote will be close, so unified opposition from College Republicans and College Democrats could make the difference.

Please join the United States Student Association in their efforts opposing the student loan cuts in the Budget Reconciliation bill by taking a public stand against the proposed student loan cuts.

United, young people can increase access to higher education and preserve the programs that students depend on to pay for school.

Sincerely,
