Tell Congress our generation needs good jobs

Our economy is in trouble. While CEOs are given bonuses and bailouts, everyone else is struggling to get by. For those of us about to graduate and enter into the workforce, our prospects for a good job with health care benefits are far worse than for past generations Today, one out of three young adults, a full 18.2 million 18-to 34-year-old do not have health insurance, making us the age group with the largest percentage uninsured. We need help! The Employee Free Choice Act can help us pursue the American dream and will restore workers' freedom to join unions and bargain collectively. Unionized younger workers are about 17 percent more likely to have health insurance and about 24 percent more likely to have a pension than their non-union counterparts. Please join students across America in their support of this vital legislation. Help us make the economy work for everyone again.

Subject: Vote for America's future workforce - Support the passage of the Employee Free Choice Act

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I urge you to vote for passage of the Employee Free Choice Act immediately. This crucial legislation will protect workers' freedom to choose a union and bargain, without management intimidation. Allowing more workers to freely join unions and bargain with their employers will help rebuild the middle and working class by expanding health care, improving retirement security and raising the standard of living for America's future workforce. My right to fair wages, healthcare and job security are worth working and voting for.

Sincerely,

Background Information

WE are fighting for the passage of the Employee Free Choice Act as a way to reform labor law and uphold the rights of workers to bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. The Employee Free Choice Act would be a game changer for working people across the country by facilitating union representation and leveling the playing field between employers and workers. In turn, the Employee Free Choice Act would strengthen the middle and working classes and help build the economically just and equitable society to which SLAP is committed. As students, we feel this is a key bill; it provides for good job opportunities and the corresponding ability to pay off student loans and attain a higher quality of life.
