First Thing's First, Make Missouri Health Care a Priority in 2007!The 2007 legislative session started January 3rd and as we expected, already Governor Blunt and the Missouri legislature are positioning themselves to make more drastic changes to our state health care system. The Governor is expected to reveal his legislative priorities, including his plan for healthcare, in his State of the State speech on January 24th. To date, as many as 700,000 Missourians, including 106,000 children have no insurance in our state and it's getting worse! In 2005, the Missouri legislature eliminated coverage for 100,000 Missourians and cut health services for another 300,000 people. In 2007, will the Governor prioritize expanding health coverage and services for Missouri's families or will he give away this year's $600 million budget surplus as tax breaks to special interests and the wealthy? It's up to us to tell the Governor now, First Thing's First: Make Missouri Health Care a Priority! A broad group of advocates, consumers, labor organizations and healthcare providers are working together in 2007 to make sure the values and voices of everyday Missourians who are struggling with the cost of health care is heard in the Capitol!
