First Things First - Make Missouri Health Care a Priority

Nearly 700,000 Missourians have no health insurance, including 106,000 children.  In 2005, Missouri politicians continued to give away millions of dollars in tax breaks for insurance companies and corporations, while eliminating health coverage for 100,000 Missourians and cutting health services for over 300,000 more! Nobody in Missouri voted for that.  We need to set this right and ensure that health care for children and families becomes a priority this year!

Background Information

First Thing's First, Make Missouri Health Care a Priority in 2007!

The 2007 legislative session started January 3rd and as we expected, already Governor Blunt and the Missouri legislature are positioning themselves to make more drastic changes to our state health care system.  The Governor is expected to reveal his legislative priorities, including his plan for healthcare, in his State of the State speech on January 24th.

To date, as many as 700,000 Missourians, including 106,000 children have no insurance in our state and it's getting worse!  In 2005, the Missouri legislature eliminated coverage for 100,000 Missourians and cut health services for another 300,000 people.

In 2007, will the Governor prioritize expanding health coverage and services for Missouri's families or will he give away this year's $600 million budget surplus as tax breaks to special interests and the wealthy?

It's up to us to tell the Governor now, First Thing's First: Make Missouri Health Care a Priority!  A broad group of advocates, consumers, labor organizations and healthcare providers are working together in 2007 to make sure the values and voices of everyday Missourians who are struggling with the cost of health care is heard in the Capitol!  Join us!

Sign our on-line petition to tell the Governor that Missourians will only support a healthcare plan that:

  • Guarantees quality affordable health coverage for every Missourian
  • Restores health coverage and services to those who were cut in 2005
  • Makes health care for Missouri's families a priority over tax breaks for the wealthy

Spread the word!  Forward the petition to five friends and encourage them to sign on and help us take Missouri healthcare reform in the right direction.  Or download a copy of the petition and circulate it in your neighborhood, church, workplace, etc.

Together, we can send a message to help shape the future of healthcare in our state:

First Thing's First, Governor Blunt, Make Missouri Health Care a Priority!
