Raise the Wage in Kansas!
The Greater Kansas City Jobs with Justice Coalition
has joined the Kansas Action Network in a campaign to raise the wage for workers covered by the State minimum wage law in Kansas City, KS.  This effort is part of a larger statewide campaign to raise the wage in three of the largest cities in the State – Wichita, Topeka, and Kansas City – thereby increasing pressure on state lawmakers in Topeka to wake up and do the right thing.  Sign the petition today, and join us at the upcoming actions below.  For more information, call 785-760-2764, email raisethewagekansas@gmail.com or visit the campaign website http://raisethewagekansas.org/kansascity

Join members of the Kansas City Federation of Teachers as they continue their fight for a fair contract
The Kansas City Federation of Teachers local 691 is calling on its allies to come out and stand in solidarity at the upcoming September 10th School Board Meeting held at 1211 McGee at 6:30 PM.  The members of Local 691 are now working without a contract and the administration is  imposing workday provisions, which were not part of the prior agreement.  Union Leaders Bridgette Williams, President of the Greater Kansas City Labor Council; Donna Birks, President of the Tri County Labor Council; and Judy Morgan, President of AFT Local 691 will all speak at this meeting.

Throughout the summer, these hardworking teachers have been at the bargaining table fighting for fair benefits and pay so that they can teach their students to the best of their ability. Union leaders believe that this continued showing of solidarity is crucial to winning this very important fight.  So come out and support your local teachers as they continue their fight for Jobs with Justice!
