Greetings,

Jobs with Justice discusses organizing on KWMU

This year's presidential campaign is putting "community organzing" into new focus throughout the country.

Candidate Barack Obama claims his experience working as a community organizer in Chicago as part of what qualifies him for president.  At the Republican National Convention, comments by vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin caused many to ask "just what does a community organizer do?"

Tune in to KWMU 90.7's "St Louis on the Air" to hear a discussion of community organizing with three talented voices from Jobs with Justice:

  • The Rev. Audrey Hollis A long-time faith co-chair from St Louis JwJ and former JwJ faith organizer.  Her experience as an organizer now influences her political leadership as an Alderman in Bellefontaine Neighbors.
  • Eddie Caumiant A labor organizer with the Service Employees International Union Local 1, and the Organizing Committee co-chair for St Louis Jobs with Justice
  • Amy Smoucha  A community organizer focusing on health care with Missouri Jobs with Justice.

During the broadcast you can join the conversation by calling 314.382.TALK (8255) or emailing talk@kwmu.org.
