Greetings,

St. Louis County:  Vote Yes on Proposition M
Improving Mass Transit Keeps St Louis Working

St Louis Jobs with Justice endorsed St. Louis County  Proposition M, which will be on the November ballot.  This proposition presents an opportunity to expand the St. Louis area Metrolink/Metrobus system, which supports thousands of working families in the St. Louis metro area.

What does a YES vote mean?

A YES VOTE will allow for a 1/2 cent sales tax increase for Metrolink expansion and operations.  This tax increase will raise about $80 million each year.  In addition, it will trigger a 1/4  sales tax in St. Louis city from a tax that was passed in the City in 1997.  The revenue from this tax cannot be colleted until a matching referendum is passed in the County.  Proposition M will accomplish this match.

Where will the money from this increase be going?

  • Half will go to operate the current system and make improvements in the connecting bus system.  These improvements will expand the reach and effectiveness of the overall Metro system.
  • Half will be used to match federal grants to expand Metrolink

What will these improvements will mean for the St. Louis area?
Metrolink/Metrobus improvements will:

  • Promote Economic Development in the area.  New development will providing jobs to the St. Louis area.
  • Save Money.  Using public transit can cut down on transportation costs by $7000/year
  • Provide a "Green" transportation alternative.  Metrolink release zero pounds of emissions per year.
  • Make the St. Louis area accessible to all.  Not everyone has a vehicle readly available to them.  Young people, the disabled and elderly need the mobility provided by Metrolink.
