STOP $300 million in Healthcare and Service Cuts!

Greetings,

URGENT ACTION:
Missouri Legislators are cutting over $300 million in
health care and critical state services.
Missouri House Leaders must hear from you
while they're at home on spring recess!
Budget bills move to the House floor next week!
Make four calls right NOW!

1. Your representative.  Look up your legislator here.

2. House Budget Chair Allen Icet:  (d) 636-519-0002; Allen.Icet@house.mo.gov

3. Speaker of the House Ron Richard: (d) 417-781-0206; ronrichard@fastfreedom.net; Ronald.Richard@house.mo.gov

4. House Budget Vice-chair Rick Stream: (d) 314-822-0556; rstream@rickstream.org; Rick.Stream@house.mo.gov

Tell legislators:   Make NO CUTS to health care and state services!  Use federal recovery act dollars in the core budget!  Protect services and jobs!

Then email us to let us know what you heard!

Remember the 2005 Medicaid cuts and the people still suffering because of them?  It's happening again.

Allen Icet and Republican House leaders are doing the opposite of what our economy needs.  They are eliminating more than 3,700 jobs and cutting over $300 million in critical state services that laid off workers and families.  These cuts turn away billions of dollars of federal funding to shore up Missouri's economy over the next few years.

These cuts are unnecessary.  Federal economic recovery money is available so that not one service, job or person has to be cut.  But key Missouri legislative leaders refuse to use federal recovery act dollars intended to stabilize state services during the economic downturn.

State budget cuts target health care programs for working parents and children, and other essential services to laid off workers. Many other critical state programs and services are on the chopping block including services for chronically mentally ill children and adults, seniors and people living with disabilities.

At a time when workers and families are struggling just to eat, fill their gas tanks, and heat their homes, more cuts to social services must be stopped!

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):

Subject: STOP THE CUTS to health care and state services

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

In these economic times it is outrageous to eliminate more than 3,700 jobs and cut over $300 million in critical state services and programs for working parents and children.

These cuts are unnecessary. Use the Federal economic recovery money to insure that our working families get the health care and services that they need. In addition, cuts to the services of seniors and people with disabilities are just cruel.

At a time when workers and families are struggling just to eat, fill their gas tanks, and heat their homes, more cuts to health care and services must be stopped!

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

What's At Stake:

Cuts to existing services

  • More than 3,700 jobs in the public and private sectors.
  • 70,000 Missourians could lose services or have their services significantly reduced.
  • $2.9 million in cuts to Services for Abused and Neglected Children.
  • $48.7 million in cuts to Mental Health Services, affecting thousands of children and adults with severe mental illness or developmental disabilities.
  • $4.4 million in cuts to Medicaid funding to provide services to Medicaid-eligible patients.  This cut will jeopardize $7.8 million in federal Medicaid funds available to Missouri.
  • $1.8 million in cuts for Home and Community Based Services for Seniors and People with Developmental Disabilities.
  • $2.0 million in cuts to Area Agencies on Aging which will reduce comprehensive services for seniors including transportation, home delivered meals, health promotion and other services.
  • More than $1.3 million in new funding for clothing and diapers for foster children—which eliminates and additional $329,000 in federal funding.

Health Care Cuts

  • Eliminates funding for governor’s proposed expansion to provide health insurance to 34,000 working parents.  This proposal would bring almost $98 million in federal funds to our state.
  • Eliminates funding that would increase affordable health coverage for 20,000 kids.  Eliminating this $22.7 million in state general revenue forgoes $58.5 million in federal funds for children’s health care.
  • Eliminates $3.3 million in general revenue funding for outreach and enrollment efforts for kids and families at community clinics and rural health centers.  This cut eliminates $9.8 million in federal funding to support Rural Health Clinics and Federally Qualified Health Centers.
