TAKE ACTION NOW

URGENT! Protect MO's Minimum Wage for Tipped Employees

UPDATE: The Missouri House of Representatives passed a weakened version of HB258 on April 16, 2009. Now it's time to make sure the Senate does the right thing.

In 2006, 76.4% of Missourians voted to pass Proposition B to raise the wage for ALL Missouri workers, including tipped employees. Now, this bill is threatening to freeze servers pay at $3.52 and not allow adjustments based on Cost of Living increases.

We must act NOW! CLICK HERE NOW,  to tell the Missouri Senate that the citizens of Missouri want to protect the wages of 53,240 tipped employees.

URGENT! Stop KSDK from Mistreating Employees

Members of St. Louis Newspaper Guild/CWA Local 36047 at KSDK are currently negotiating a new contract with management. KSDK management is demanding a 15 percent wage cut from the Guild members while management sees no cuts in pay.

Local 36047 is asking members of organized labor to call the television station and ask management for an explanation. Union members should call KSDK-TV President Lynn Beall at (314)444-5265 or News Director Mike Shipley at (314)444-5131 to demand that "management stop mistreating it's employees in the name of higher profits."

Update: The Missouri Budget

The Senate has passed a version of the budget ithat is dramatically improved and includes significant funding for important social services such as mental health care and services for Missourians with disabilities.  The Senate also expanded health care access for low-income working parents – a real victory!

This fight is not over, and we can't give up now.  Next week, the budget will move to a Conference Committee, where members of the House and the Senate will meet to reconcile the two versions of the budget.  We must do all we can to ensure that the finalized budget bill is as close to the Senate version as possible.

New Actions around the budget are coming soon.
