Fruit of the Loom: Reopen Jerzees de Honduras!
Fruit of the Loom, the largest private employer in Honduras, has committed numerous violations of worker rights in its factories throughout the country. People & Planet has launched a new campaign in response to reports of worker repression at Fruit of the Loom's Jerzees de Honduras factory, where trade unionists face death threats and targeted dismissals for speaking out to management, and the eventual loss of their jobs as a result of the factory's closure. Fruit of the Loom's abuses of worker and human rights have wrongfully left 1,800 people jobless simply because workers attempted to exercise their rights to join together and fight sweatshop conditions in the garment industry.

Subject: Fruit of the Loom: Reopen Jerzees de Honduras!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I write to express my deep concern over Fruit of the Loom's worker rights violations at its Jerzees de Honduras factory. I urge you to reopen the factory, rehire the 1,800 workers wrongfully left jobless, and make a commitment to respecting freedom of association in all of your Honduras factories.
I have learned about your company's worker rights violations in Honduras from People & Planet, the largest student network in Britain campaigning to end world poverty, defend human rights and protect the environment. People & Planet has launched a campaign to encourage universities to boycott Fruit of the Loom until these violations are resolved.
As you know, Fruit of the Loom products are bought by many schools, colleges and universities in the UK. Already, People & Planet has persuaded four British universities to boycott your company until its worker rights violations are resolved. Our counterparts in North America, United Students Against Sweatshops, have persuaded nearly 100 universities to sever ties with your company over its labour rights abuses, highlighting the seriousness of this case.
Again, I urge you to reopen the factory, rehire all 1,800 workers wrongfully left unemployed, and make a commitment to workers' freedom to form unions in all of your Honduras factories.
Sincerely,
|
