ENOUGH IS ENOUGH - ACT NOW TO STOP ANOTHER TAX SCAM!
ORIGINAL VOTE POSTPONED - THEY WILL VOTE BY APRIL 14TH!
The Taxation and Budget Reform Commission, a politically appointed group of powerful insiders, is currently in the process of putting proposed constitutional amendments directly on the 2008 ballot. Later this week, they will vote whether or not to put the disastrous Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) on the ballot. This new tax scam will make the disaster of Amendment 1 look like a nice sunny walk in the park! It will place arbitrary revenue caps on state and local governments as well as our school districts. Tax cut fever has made Tallahassee crazy; it is up to you to bring some much needed sanity back to the process!
Florida is already at the bottom for education, health care and public safety funding. These constitutional caps will keep Florida at the bottom forever. It is critical that we all contact the uncommitted members of this commission and let them know to keep these TABOR-like caps off the ballot.

Subject: VOTE NO ON PROPOSAL 45
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am deeply concerned by the Taxation and Budget Reform Commission's continued interest in placing revenue caps on our local governments and school districts. Florida is at a serious crossroads; at a time when our education system is crumbling, what is left of our social safety net is being slashed and numerous tax cutting measures have yet to have fully played out. This is the worst possible time to even consider a simplistic, one size fits all tax cutting scheme for the State Constitution. There are serious property tax problems across the state, but I firmly believe that the answers to these problems are not addressed by revenue caps but by finding fixing the numerous exemptions and loopholes that plague our tax system. I am aware that you have already placed a measure on the ballot to eliminate the portion of my property taxes that fund our schools and am concerned that this may have some serious unintended consequences as it is. Please do not compound any potential problems by passing the revenue caps contained in Proposal #45. There have been major changes in Florida's tax system already and the impact of these changes should be assessed before doing anything as risky as the "Taxpayer Protection Amendment" in any form. Please vote against placing Proposal #45 on the ballot.
Sincerely,
|
