Please act NOW to help jobless Texans get Unemployment Insurance benefits.  Call and write your state representative to SUPPORT SB 1569.

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I write to urge you to SUPPORT SB 1569 by Sen. Kevin Eltife, R-Tyler, and Rep. Mark Strama, D-Austin, which will soon be considered on the floor of the Texas House.

Please take the money! The federal economic stimulus plan will deliver $555 million to Texas for unemployed workers who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. SB 1569 will make 45,000 more Texans eligible for Unemployment Insurance benefits and elevate the Texas system, which is 50th in the percentage of workers who are eligible for benefits. And in tough economic times, SB 1569 will cut UI taxes for struggling Texas employers by $555 million.

SB 1569 is not about partisan considerations or ideology or "state's rights". It is simply about helping Texans who are temporarily down on their luck.

Please SUPPORT SB 1569 because it is the right policy and because it is right for Texas.
