TEXAS AFT LEGISLATIVE HOTLINE--WEDNESDAY, JULY 22,

Health-Care Reform Drive Intensifies–National
Call-In Day on Tuesday, July 28
The next few weeks could decide whether Congress enacts
national health-care reform or maintains the status quo of
skyrocketing costs, shrinking benefits, and total lack of health
insurance for one out of every six Americans. In Texas, the
percentage who are uninsured is even worse, and our state
embarrassingly leads the nation in the percentage of children
who lack even the most minimal health-insurance coverage.
Defenders of this awful status quo, including many lobbyists
for the insurance industry, are doing their best to slow and
kill the national health-care initiative, and it is essential
that members of Congress hear more from the vast majority of
Americans who support fundamental reform. Texas AFT therefore
asks you to take part in a "National Call-In Day" for
health-care reform on Tuesday, July 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Please join your fellow educators and fellow union members
and their families in calling your representative in the U.S.
House, and tell him or her you and your family want our broken
health-care system fixed now. You can use the following
toll-free number provided by the national Health Care for
America Now coalition: 1-877-264-HCAN (1-877-264-4226).
Don't let the people who profit from the current health-care
mess stand between you and a decent health-care system!
Don’t let them block reform! It's time. Mark your
calendar, and call your representative on Tuesday, July 28.
