Just two more days for early voting: Thursday and Friday--October 29 and 30--are the last two days to vote early for this falls general election. Election Day is on Tuesday, November 3. Early voting hours vary by county, but most larger counties will have locations open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in these last two days. Contact your local county election office for exact times and locations.

Lists of county election office Web sites (http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/links.shtml#County) and phone numbers (http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/county.shtml) are available on the Secretary of State's Web site.

Join your fellow Texas AFT members in making sure that you and every eligible voter among your family and friends gets to the polls in the next two days or on election day!

The Houston Federation of Teachers and the Houston Educational Support Personnel local unions are in their final push to get favorable school board members elected. Check out their Web site at http://tx.aft.org/hft for endorsements, as well as endorsements from neighboring Alief AFT for its school board race.

Our local in Brazosport ISD, the Brazosport Federation of Teachers and Support Personnel, also is working for passage of a bond election. See their Web site at http://www.bftsp.org for more information.

A quick look ahead to the 2010 primary election: For those of us who can't resist looking ahead to 2010 elections, here are a few dates to remember.

Candidate filing for the March primary opens Thursday, December 3, 2009 and closes Monday, January 4, 2010. Monday, February 1 is the last day to register to vote in the primary. Early voting will start Tuesday, February 16 and end Friday, February 26. Primary election day is Tuesday, March 2.
