The Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council is the state's umbrella labor organization for over 36 affiliated Unions, representing 273 Local Unions and over 80,000 workers across the state.

Chartered by the national AFL-CIO in 1956, we serve as the coordinating body for local, state and national Union matters.

Tennessee AFL-CIO members work at a wide variety of public and private sector jobs in every industry in the state.

Functions of the Tennessee AFL-CIO Central Labor Council include the Technical Assistance Program, a dislocated worker program that works with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development to provide technical and training assistance to labor unions and workers throughout Tennessee; and the Members' Assistance Program, offering a broad-brush approach designed to assist troubled workers and their families. Approaches include prevention, intervention, appropriate evaluation and assessment, directed care, case management and follow-up services.

Constituency groups include chapters of the A. Philip Randolph Institute and the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.

Unions - such as the IBEW, International Association of Firefighters, the United Autoworkers, and other affiliated groups - lead the fight today for better lives for working people, such as through expanded family and medical leave, improved safety and health protections and fair trade agreements that lift the standard of living for workers all over the world.
