Hands Off Our Tips
We spoke in UNITY Our VOICE was loud We were Heard
When we are united we can win!
AB 357 died on Friday, April 13th in the Judiciary Committee. However, so many of us continued to voice our support of the Bill that seeks to protect our tips from any employers control, that it was resurrected on April 24th as AB 248 which passed the Assembly floor!
But, the fight is not over. AB 248 must pass the Senate floor, then signed off by the Governor, before it will become law. The whole process may not be finalized until September 2007. We must continue to speak in unity, make our voices loud and clear, so that we will be heard again.
Write to all members of the Senate asking for their support by applying pressure to the Senate to support and pass AB 248. Tell them that if they support and pass AB 248, that you will support their reelection.
Remember to tell your friends, family, other dealers and other tips earners to write also.

Subject: Support AB 248
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to ask you to vote in support of AB 248. This is very important to all tipped employees of Nevada and their families.
Also, support any amendments to this bill that ensures only those who contribute to the tip-pool be allowed to withdraw from it.
It is important to remember, dealers are traditionally paid minimum wage while floormen make five times more money.
If an employer wants to give management a raise he should do so out of his own pocket, not at the expense of his employees.
I am calling on you to stand up for working families.
You are in a position to stop corporations from confiscating a percentage of tips and paying it to their managerial positions.
Tipped employees are the front line customer service industry for all corporations. They do their jobs well and are the reason that customers and tourists come back to Nevada.
Tens of Thousands of working people in Nevada are depending on your support.
Please, vote YES and PASS AB 248. Thank you for your valuable time and consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
|
