Dear UAN e-Activist

Act now to encourage your House representative to vote to reauthorize and increase the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.  SCHIP makes health coverage available to children whose families don’t qualify for Medicaid but can’t afford private insurance.

Though the Senate and House both passed bills to expand SCHIP to more than 6 million children now enrolled and 4 million more children who are now uninsured, President Bush has vetoed this critical measure today. 

There are enough votes in the Senate to override the veto, but the House is about 20 votes short.  We need your help to contact every House member and urge them to vote to override a veto of the SCHIP bill, H.R. 976.  An override vote could happen as soon as Sept. 10.
