Times are tough all around. New Jersey faces an enormous challenge in fixing its state budget and we are getting ready now to participate in the budget process. Governor Corzine presents his budget proposal in early March. Even with a federal stimulus, we are all concerned that working families in New Jersey are going to be asked to bare too much of the pain in getting through this economic crisis. We strongly believe that this time that the state must ensure that public higher education institutions like Rutgers have the resources to accommodate growing demand for education and training. During economic downturns, the services that we provide become even more important as people seek additional education and skills to find work. We understand that this economic crisis requires making hard choices and we must all do our part to help identify real solutions. Part of the solution is making sure that good jobs with living wages, and benefits remain available for people providing valuable services.
