Greetings,
Back To The Table
After waiting a month and a half to respond to URA's
proposals, Rutgers management asked URA to meet on Thursday
(10/15) about our contract. Old Queens is still demanding
bigger givebacks from staff than from faculty and offering
less job security in return. We will be back in touch with
details after our meeting.
Union Responds to Ledger's Tom Moran
In his Star-Ledger column Wednesday, Tom Moran writes a
critical article about union support for Gov. Corzine's
reelection bid and demonstrates his ignorance of labor
law and neutrality agreements:
"He even used the full weight of his office to support a
union drive at Rutgers University by rigging the rules. An
agreement he brokered gave unions the right to organize, even in
the office during work hours, while forcing Rutgers president
Richard McCormick and his staff to remain silent."

"Those of us who personally experienced union-busting tactics
know that all the Governor did was to call to enforce the law,"
said URA-AFT president Lucye Millerand.
URA-AFT executive vice president Nat Bender said, "Back
in 2007 Moran called the Governor 'Norma Rae' for defending the
right to organize. To now say the Governor's
actions 'rigged' the campaign election shows
a serious disregard for the truth."

Governor Corzine: "People ought to have the
ability to make a decision, based on the free flow of
information on a university campus. People ought to have a free
choice. That is what card check legislation is about.”
