Thank Your Representative for Co-Sponsoring the Employee Free Choice Act

Your representative is among more than 230 co-sponsors of the Employee Free Choice Act, legislation that will restore workers' freedom to make our own choice about whether to have a union so we can bargain for a better life—without interference from management.

Subject: Thank You for Co-Sponsoring the Employee Free Choice Act

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Thank you for co-sponsoring the Employee Free Choice Act, which will restore workers' freedom to choose for ourselves--without management intimidation--whether to form unions so we can bargain for better wages, benefits and working conditions. By co-sponsoring this legislation, you are doing exactly what I helped to send you to Washington, DC, to do--you are working for working families.

I consider the Employee Free Choice Act the most important legislation in 70 years for strengthening America's middle class and providing working men and women true economic opportunity. It's good to have a U.S. representative who recognizes its significance and will carry this fight for working families to Capitol Hill.

Union members know the best way for working families to get ahead is with a union contract. But the system for forming unions and bargaining for a better life is broken. It's been perverted by employers who use it to intimidate, harass, coerce and even fire workers who just want to work together with their colleagues for a better deal. A fair deal.

The Employee Free Choice Act will restore a level playing field for workers and employers.

Again, I thank you for co-sponsoring this important legislation and doing the work we sent you to Washington to do. I know I can count on your support when the Employee Free Choice Act is voted on in the House.

Sincerely,

Sincerely,

Background Information

The best opportunity working people have to get ahead economically is by uniting to bargain with their employers for better wages and benefits.  But the current system for forming unions and bargaining is broken. Every day, corporations deny workers the freedom to decide for themselves whether to form unions to bargain for a better life. They routinely intimidate, harass, coerce and even fire workers who try to form unions and bargain for economic well-being.

The Employee Free Choice Act (H.R. 800), supported by a bipartisan coalition in Congress, would level the playing field for workers and employers and help rebuild America’s middle class.
