State Legislators are meeting to decide on more budget cuts to Florida government services.  We have the opportunity to tell them that education cannot be cut any more.  Take a few minutes during your winter break to help protect your students and your profession.

Our profession is under attack, and the danger is near and real.  What you do with your time matters and you can have a positive influence on our legislators.  Take just a few minutes to do something important.  One call or e-mail from you could make the difference in your legislator’s vote.

The Florida Legislature is meeting in a special session to again decide on how to deal with budget shortfalls.  Tell them that children and schools cannot be cut any more, and that you expect them to protect Florida’s future.  Tell them that every stage of a child’s education is critical and children cannot wait for better economic times for protecting education.  When it comes to their education and development children do not get a do-over.  TELL THEM TO HOLD EDUCATION HARMLESS.

There are ways that our government can deal with these problems without making drastic cuts to education yet again.  Give yourself, our children, and our schools a present by e-mailing your legislator and urging them to explore other ways of handling Florida’s budget shortfall.

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

You are meeting in a special session to again decide on how to deal with the budget shortfalls. I am asking you not to cut any more out of the education budget. Every stage of a child's education is critical and children cannot wait for better economic times for protecting education. When it comes to their education and development, children do not get a do-over. I ask that before you harm public education seek any other option for coping with this shortfall.

You can: - Use the state's contingency funds to buffer the revenue shortfall. - Open other revenue streams such as additional cigarette taxes, or reducing or eliminating some of the sales tax exemptions. - Generate new revenue streams from legal gambling establishments already operating within the state. - Generate new revenue by charging sales tax on internet purchases.
