Our Community is in Crisis. Our Schools are in Peril.
Greetings,
The recent actions of Miami-Dade County
Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho causes us,
as education professionals, to have many questions
regarding the stadium plan coming up for vote in the near
future. He talks
about core mission but is unwilling to stand by his contractual
agreements with employees.
He challenges the community to look at all of the
government's financial numbers, but hides actual spending from
the public.
This causes us to ask the following questions of our
County and City Commissioners:
1. Does their
stadium plan protect taxpayers from cost
overruns?
2. Does their
stadium plan protect workers
who sign contracts or will their wages be taken
back?
3. Miami-Dade
County Public Schools keeps revising and changing its financial
picture. How can we
be sure
that the money from
taxpayers for the stadium will not cost us more and more with no
return investment?
Take action! Tell City
and County officials they should put safeguards in place so
taxpayers' money is not mismanaged and that contracts with
employees are not broken.
Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):
City Manager Pedro Hernandez
County Manager George Burgess

Subject: Community in Crisis
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],
I am an educational professional working for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The recent actions of Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, causes me to have many questions regarding the stadium plan you will be voting on in the near future.
Alberto Carvalho talks about core mission but is unwilling to stand by his contractual agreements with employees. He challenges the community to look at all of the government's financial numbers but hides actual spending from the public.
Does your plan protect taxpayers from cost overruns? Does your stadium protect workers who sign contracts or will their wages be taken back? M-DCPS keeps revising and changing its financial picture. How can I be secure that the money from taxpayers for the stadium will not cost us more and more with no return on investment?
Our community is in a crisis. Our schools are in peril. We have been misled by our current Superintendent and certain School Board leaders. Are you being misled by the proponents of the stadium?
As a public school employee and voter, I will be watching carefully. I count on you to perform your due diligence. That is something missing at Miami-Dade Public Schools, but hopefully it will be present when you vote on this important issue.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
