Dear Member:

Recovering from all the holiday spending and festivities? Now's a good time to get your financial house in order.

As you review your financial records and collect your W-2s, keep in mind that you can use a new online tool to help prepare your taxes this year. For half the cost of similar services from H&R Block® and Quicken®. you can use the Union Plus Tax Service to file both your federal and state tax returns. Learn how to set up your online account to prepare your taxes at www.unionplus.org/taxes.

If you're experiencing more financial burdens, Union Plus Credit Counseling - www.unionplus.org/creditcounseling - provided through Money Management International (MMI) - provides a credit counseling session and budget analysis at no cost. It's a reliable way to get some expert financial advice from a non-profit organization you can trust.

Keep reading for more practical money management tips and tools.

Credit reporting:

Under a new U.S. law, the three major credit reporting agencies are required to let you examine your credit report at no charge once each year. Although the data is initially available only to residents of Western states, the phased introduction will encompass the entire country by September. www.annualcreditreport.com

Reviewing your credit reports is a good start, but you should also know your FICO score.  To know what lenders will see before you apply for a loan, and to get tips on how to improve your score, use your Union Plus myFICO 15%discount at www.unionplus.org/creditscore.
