Tell Exeter Property Company, 'Jersey City is a Union Town'

Union labor doesn't cost. It pays. Have the job done right the first time, on time, on budget. Exeter Property is trying to cut corners by hiring non-union labor to supplement the union labor that is working on their construction project at the former St. Francis Hospital site at the historic Hamilton Park area in downtown Jersey City, NJ.

Members of UA Plumbers Local 14 and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 164 have been doing informational picketing at the site for some time now. Exeter management has refused to build all union. Additionally, a scan of the worker parking area will reveal many out of state license plates. Not only are they not hiring local union workers they are apparently using out of state workers at their worksite.

Let Paul Silverman and Exeter Property Company know that in Hudson County we build union. Tell Mr. Silverman and his partners to do the right thing. Put local union trade people to work and send the out of state workers packing.

Subject: Jersey City is a Union Town

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

It has recently come to my attention that some of the work at the former St. Francis Hospital site at the historic Hamilton Park area in downtown Jersey City, NJ is being done with out-of-state, non-union workers. As Jersey City is a Union Town, I am saddened to hear that my brothers and sisters from the IBEW Local 164 and the Plumbers Local 14 are not given the opportunity to work on this project.

As you may know, the use of a union workforce is beneficial not only for the prompt completion of quality work at a development, but also for the local community. By using local union labor, it guarantees that the workers on the site are earning a living wage, have proper health care and retirement benefits, and work under the safest conditions - lowering the possibility of injury at the job. Local union members are from the local community and should be given the opportunity to help rebuild their neighborhoods and put money back into the local economy. Union labor also has the benefit of a quality product that is completed promptly and correctly the first time.

As a resident of New Jersey and a union supporter, I respectfully urge you to reconsider using out-of-state workers to rebuild our neighborhoods and use local union workers to help grow our local economy. As stated above, it is in your best interest and the best interest of our communities to use a union workforce.

Thank you for you attention, and I look forward to a quick resolution to this matter.

Sincerely,
