Tell Strauss Auto their Workers Deserve a Fair and Equitable Contract

Tell Strauss Auto their workers deserve a fair and equitable contract. RWDSU Local 108, who represent the workers at Strauss, have been negotiating with management for 11 months for a new contract. In February of 2009, Strauss filed for Chapter 11. Since then, Strauss declared that everything that had been previously agreed to be withdrawn, and assumed a new bargaining posture in which they demanded unfair givebacks. The company demanded workers take wage freezes and reductions in pay, elimination of pension, seniority rights and paid time off. Tell Strauss Auto CEO Glenn Langberg their workers deserve a fair and equitable contract. Local 108 has agreed to make concessions to help the company pull through this difficult economic time. However, the company is still demanding more and asking the workers to shoulder an unfair sacrifice even after reserving $672,000 in severance pay for a few key executives. These actions by management are nothing more than union busting tactics. Tell Strauss Auto CEO Glenn Langberg workers deserve a fair and equitable contract and sacrifices should be shared by all, including the executives.

Subject: Negotiate Fairly With Your Workers

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Local 108 RWDSU - UFCW has kept me apprised of the recent activity surrounding efforts to reach a fair contract with your company. I want to voice my strong support for the working members of Local 108.

At a time when working families are already suffering from the economic downturn, it is outrageous that the final offer put forth by the Autobacs Strauss demands that the workers accept a reduction in wages, less paid time off, loss of pension benefits, and the gutting of seniority rights.

Local 108 understands that these are tough times, and is willing to make shared fair sacrifices, as long as their members share in the benefits also.

I urge management to reconsider its unfair, anti-worker offer so that Local 108 members that work at Strauss can continue to serve the company while providing a decent standard of living for themselves and their families.

Sincerely,
