Support for Healthcare is a Human Right at Peter Welch Forums

Williston - On Saturday October 10th Peter Welch held a forum on healthcare at Williston Central School which drew over 50 people, including a bunch of right wing opponents to healthcare reform.

We are happy to report that dozens of Healthcare is a Human Right supporters spoke out demanding that healthcare not be treated as a commodity and pointed out that healthcare is not like auto insurance.

"I am not a car.  I don't want to be called a consumer.  Healthcare is a human right," said Matt Kimball, Healthcare Is A Human Right Campaign leader who lives in Burlington and grew up in Rutland.

Members of the Healthcare is a Human Right Campaign said they felt this federal legislation would fall short of fixing the problem and called on supporters of real reform to join us in fighting for our human right to healthcare this legislative session in VT.  See Burlington Free Press article from Sunday, October 11 which includes focus on HCisHR leaders. http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/article/20091011/NEWS02/91010015/1001/news

JOIN US THIS SATURDAY - On Saturday, October 17th 3:30 p.m. at Hartford High School, 73 Highland Avenue, White River Junction Peter Welch will hold a second forum on Healthcare.  It is critically important that members of the Healthcare is a Human Right Campaign turn out to Congressman Welch and the public that the vast majority of Vermonters know healthcare is a human right and demand fundamental change now.

Let us know if you can make it to the forum or if you would like to carpool.  Email kate@workerscenter.org.

The Vermont Workers' Center and Michael Moore's new film "Capitalism: A Love Story"

At the Savoy Theater in Montpelier and Merrill's Roxy in Burlington, Vermont Workers' Center leaders have been tabling at showings of Michael Moore's new film "Capitalism: A Love Story".  People leave the film wanting to take action to change this unjust system.  We've collected lots of healthcare is a human right postcards from movie-goers and talked to lots of people about getting involved.

We encourage you to see the film and join us tabling at the theater!  Contact kate@workerscenter.org if you have any questions or if you are interested in helping out.
