Barclay's H-1B Action

Barclays Global Investors is asking for H-1B visa applications for jobs that range in salary from $57,000 to $200,000.  Apparently, Barclays is having trouble finding domestic MBAs who want to work for $200,000—if they even tried. Barclays’ labor practices are an example of a company that can use the lack of real regulation in the H-1B visa law to bypass the U.S. labor market.

When you Take Action, a letter will be sent to Barclays Managing Director, Blake Grossman and Head of Human Resources, Chris McCrum.  The letter will be cc'd to both California Senators (Boxer & Feinstein) as well as Rep. Pelosi, as Barclays is located in her district.

Do you work for Barclays?  If so, please call the Whistleblower Hotline to let them know what you think of their practice of preferring non-U.S. residents for their work.  The number is 866-407-3391.

Subject: Barclays: Stop Abusing the H-1B Program

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to express my concern regarding Barclays potential abuse of the H-1B visa program. The intent of this program is to fill spot labor market shortages faced by employers for highly skilled technical positions in a tight labor market. The company's applications seeking Associate Technology Analysts, Associate Research Analysts and a Managing Director of Investments do not seem to fit the intent of U.S. law on the H-1B visa program seeking foreign technical workers.

High-tech employers have falsely been claiming a severe shortage of skilled employees. I do not believe a shortage of employees exists in finance industry. Once again it appears that Barclays is trying to bypass qualified workers in the U.S. to fill its job openings and manipulate U.S. law.

I would like to strongly encourage you to fill your open positions with qualified residents in the United States. before abusing the H-1B visa program.

I have also cc'd the Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senators Boxer and Feinstein.

Sincerely,

Campaign Launched:

Offshoring/Inshoring: That's Free-Trade, Folks!
Commentary by Roberta L. Wilson

Feeling displaced and disposable? The IT sector, once the canary in the mineshaft in terms of outsourcing, offshoring, and inshoring, has been joined by other service sector jobs, including financial analysis positions at Barclays Global Investors and elsewhere. Meanwhile, the economic globalization of jobs, from entry-level manufacturing jobs to high-end research jobs, continues unabated by corporations and supported by free-trade policies, most recently efforts by the new Democrats, as well as Republicans.
