Support the Shelbyville OVACO Workers

It’s been more than a year since 80 percent of the workers at Ohio Valley Aluminum (OVACO) voted to form a union with the United Steelworkers (USW).

The election was government supervised, but the workers still don’t have a first contract with the company, long after they voted in support of a union.

Use the form to the right to show your support for the OVACO workers.

Subject: I support the OVACO workers

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Last summer, more than 80 percent of the workers at your OVACO plant in Shelbyville voted to form a union with the United Steelworkers in a government-supervised election.

Their goal is to build a better future for all OVACO workers.

An agreement would make OVACO a better company and a better place to work--a place where workers are treated and compensated fairly.

I support the OVACO workers, and I urge you to negotiate a first contract with them in good faith.

Sincerely,

Background Information

The workers at the Ohio Valley Aluminum Co. (OVACO) plant in Shelbyville, Ky., voted overwhelmingly to organize, but they have gone more than a year without a first contract. Management refuses to bargain in good faith.

As United Steelworkers District 8 Director Billy Thompson said, “This dispute is not just about the folks at OVACO. It’s about defending every man and woman in America who chooses to have a union.”

It’s time to tell OVACO to support their workers.
