Tell Bush to Act Now to Stop Exporting U.S. Jobs

President George W. Bush and his allies in Congress are supporting new tax breaks and new trade deals that would encourage companies to export U.S. jobs, while 8 million officially jobless people are looking for work in America--experts estimate the total number of unemployed and under-employed is more than 14 million. We can stop this and change America if thousands of people speak out about this outrage. Please take one minute right now to send a letter to President Bush and Congress.

Subject: Act to Stop the Exporting of U.S. Jobs

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am very concerned about jobs being moved overseas. Hundreds and thousands of people in my community have been hit hard by the loss of good jobs. This job loss is devastating to our community. It hurts families, the small businesses they patronize and the schools and public services that depend on our tax dollars.

I am opposed to new tax breaks, trade deals and other policies that encourage companies to export America's jobs. I think it is shameful that Congress and President Bush are considering tax breaks to encourage companies to move U.S. jobs overseas.

Elected leaders must act immediately and aggressively to stop the loss of U.S. jobs and seek policies to create new good jobs. America needs good jobs.

I will use this issue to evaluate your commitment to working families in America. I await your prompt response.

Sincerely,

Background Information

Millions of U.S. jobs are being exported by big corporations trying to fatten profits by shipping work abroad. Worse, Congress and President George W. Bush and his allies in Congress support billions of dollars in new tax breaks to encourage companies to export U.S. jobs, while 10 million jobless people are looking for work in America. We can stop this and change America if thousands of people speak out about this outrage. Click here to see where Kerry and Bush stand on this and other important issues.

The AFL-CIO Working Families Network is launching a special online letter-writing drive to Congress and President Bush urging them to block any measure that would export U.S. jobs. Please take one minute right now to send your letter.

After you act, please spread the alarm about these acts by our elected leaders to your friends, family and co-workers and ask them to sign the petition.

America already has lost factory jobs by the millions. Now, job loss is under way in office jobs. IBM, AT&T, Xerox, Verizon, Microsoft, General Electric, Delta Air Lines, Bank of America and more are all exporting jobs, according to CNN's Lou Dobbs. Please act today. We can make a difference when we speak out.

We'll keep you up to date on this and other important issues. Please check your e-mail soon for a special alert about which jobs are going overseas.
