Join the Fight for Health Care

Our goal is to win secure, high-quality health care for all.

We are mobilizing a 1 million-member army of health care activists to keep comprehensive health care reform at the top of the political agenda in 2008—and to ensure that the real work of fixing the health care system is actually done after the elections.

We know the opponents of health care reform will work overtime to stop us by spreading confusion, and that they have the money to do it. We have to inoculate every working family against the lies and false solutions that will make things worse. We have to bring the health care debate down to earth in every union workplace and every community in America.

This is a campaign of education, outreach and mobilization. It begins today with your signature. But change will only happen if you also recruit your co-workers, family and friends to fight for health care reform.

Subject: We Want YOU to Fight for Health Care

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I will work to build a 1 million-member mobilization team of activists to make sure comprehensive health care reform arrives in 2008.

I will help to arm other working people with the knowledge they need to make informed choices about health care reform and become health care voters.

Together with this team of activists, I will help to mobilize working families as never before to go to the polls to elect a president and Congress who will stand up for secure, high-quality health care for all.

In the end, I will help working families win a unique American plan for health care reform that:

-- Controls rising and irrational costs. -- Provides comprehensive, high-quality health care to all. -- Gives every family the opportunity and the responsibility for preventive care. -- Preserves the right to choose and use your own doctor. -- Asks our government to play a strong role in restoring balance to the system--curbing greed and incompetence and ensuring more fairness and efficiency. -- Lowers employer costs and, in return, asks them to pay their fair share, along with government and individuals. -- Builds on what's best about American health care while drawing from what works in other countries.

The fight begins now. Count me in for health care we can count on.

Background Information

The 2008 elections offer a unique window to fix our health care system—Americans are ready as never before.

Largely because of rising costs, 47 million people in this wealthy and powerful country—including 8.7 million children—have no health coverage at all.

More than one-third of people who have insurance are worried about losing it. Even union workers, who have led the way in securing health benefits for working people, are in danger of losing secure health coverage because of out-of-control costs.

Meanwhile, insurance and drug companies are making stunning profits. Health insurance CEOs averaged $8.7 million in 2006 compensation, and pharmaceutical company CEOs pulled down an average of $4.4 million.

It’s time to fix our broken health care system.
